If you own a car that just isn't doing it for you in the power department, the most effective way to remedy the situation is simply to boost it. There are countless power adding modifications for just about any car you choose,.. but the best bang for the buck is ALWAYS forced induction. They say there's more than one way to skin a cat, and adding forced induction to your car is no exception. But which way is best for you,.. a turbo or a supercharger?

Both of these options have their advantages and disadvantages, and there is no correct answer. Read on and we will give you some pointers to make your decision a little easier.

How much skill is available to you for the install? A supercharger is much easier to install than a turbo. Because of this, if you are a novice installing on your own, a turbo install may be out of the question. If you ever want to put the car back to stock for whatever reason, the supercharger is easier to remove as well.

How much will your setup change in the future? A turbocharger offers much more expandability and adjustment than a supercharger. As you build up your car, you will almost always be able to upgrade the turbo along with it to improve it's power output. Superchargers have much less freedom in adjustments and therefore, may become a bottleneck for power if you continue to improve your car.

How big is your engine? Because a supercharger is run using belts, it will induce parasitic loss into your setup. This can be a bad thing on a small engine, as it will take some power just to begin spinning the supercharger. If you drive a 4 cylinder, you almost certainly want to go with a turbo setup over a supercharged one. However,.. on a larger engine such as a V-8, a supercharger can be spun easily without breaking a sweat and make excellent power.
